Before you start

Pack one small day bag separately from your main luggage. Put a change of clothes and toiletries where you can reach them on arrival, and leave space for a light layer for air-conditioned trains and buses. For temple days, bring clothing that covers shoulders and knees and check the specific site's dress rules. If your trip includes boat transfers, add a dry bag for electronics.

  1. 01
    Packing cubes

    BAGAIL Packing Cubes, 8-Piece Set

Separate outfits, underwear and small essentials into zippered cubes that can move straight from suitcase to drawer.

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR

Compare cube dimensions with your bag and decide whether mesh visibility or compression matters more.

    THE TRADE-OFF

Compression can make a bag denser; it does not reduce the weight of what you pack.

  2. 02
    Travel daypack

    MATEIN Travel Laptop Backpack, 15.6-Inch

A laptop backpack with separate pockets for everyday essentials. Use it for city days and transit; it is not an overnight hiking pack.

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR

Check loaded comfort, bottle access and whether it fits your intended transport rules.

    THE TRADE-OFF

Packable bags save space but usually offer less padding and structure.

  3. 03
    Reusable water bottle

Owala FreeSip Water Bottle, 24 oz

A 24-ounce stainless steel bottle with Owala’s straw-and-spout lid, so you can sip or tip without switching lids.

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR

Choose a capacity you will actually carry and a lid that can be cleaned thoroughly.

    THE TRADE-OFF

Insulated bottles can weigh more than uninsulated versions.

  4. 04
    Toiletry bag

    BAGSMART Hanging Toiletry Bag

A hanging toiletry organizer that keeps bottles and smaller washroom essentials together when counter space is limited.

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR

Check bottle heights, wipe-clean lining and whether the bag stands or hangs conveniently.

    THE TRADE-OFF

A roomy bag can encourage carrying more bottles than you need.

  5. 05
    Laundry bag

Handy Laundry Nylon Laundry Bags, 2 Pack

Two roomy nylon drawstring bags for separating laundry. These are large hamper-style bags; check dimensions before packing light.

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR

Choose washable fabric, a useful closure and a packed size that suits the trip.

    THE TRADE-OFF

A sealed wet bag can trap moisture; dry clothing before storing it for long periods.

  6. 06
    Luggage tags

    Travelambo Luggage Tags, 2 Pack

Make luggage easier to identify and give someone a way to contact you if it is misplaced.

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR

Look for a secure attachment and a cover that keeps contact information from casual view.

    THE TRADE-OFF

Loose straps can snag; check the attachment before travel.

  7. 07

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR

    What to consider before buying

  9. 09
    Sleep mask

    MZOO Contoured Sleep Mask

Bring a small way to block light when resting away from home.

    What to consider before buying
    LOOK FOR
